Respite & Post-Surgical Care

Temporary help for caregivers and those recovering from surgery

Burnout is defined as “physical or mental collapse caused by overwork or stress.” While often discussed in relation to paid work, caregiver burnout is real and can easily go unnoticed until it is too late. Respite care  provides planned, short-term breaks for families, and other unpaid caregivers, to help create care-life balance and avoid caregiver burnout.

With a minimum scheduling of only three hours a day, every 30 days, B&C United is here to support caregivers whenever they need it.

What Is Respite Care

Think of respite care as a combination of companionship and short-term homemaker assistance. Whether we’re in your home for a week, or just a few hours each month, we take on everything that comes with being a caregiver. This includes:

  • Light housekeeping
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Medication reminders
  • Basic personal care
  • Transportation to and from doctor’s appointments
  • Chatting, playing games, and general companionship

Caregiver Time-Off

Unpaid caregiving is often a full-time job that is placed on top of other responsibilities, such as a paid full-time job and parenting. Just like employees at paid jobs, caregivers also need breaks and time to re-charge in order to continue taking care of their loved one long-term.

Respite care is designed to help caregivers:

  • Go on vacations and weekend trips
  • Plan a monthly date night with their significant other
  • Attend life events such as weddings, graduations, or funerals
  • Take a day off to relax or focus on other life responsibilities

Post-Treatment Helping Hand

While we’re often eager to get home after a hospital procedure or stay at in-patient rehab, it’s not always possible to take on those day-to-day household tasks right away.

Post-treatment respite care allows you to focus on recovering while in the comfort of your own home. In addition to meal prep, housekeeping, and personal care, our aides make it easier to follow your doctor’s discharge instructions and can help keep an eye out for any changes in your pain level, appetite, or sleep patterns.
