What is the importance of World Population Day?

The original World Population Day was suggested by Dr. K.C. Zachariah to mark the day the world’s population reached 5 billion. As of May 2020, the United Nations estimates the world population to be 7.8 billion.

Why am I celebrating World Population Day? It’s a moment to reflect on not just the United States but the entire world.

Since it’s inception, this day aims to increase people’s awareness of various population issues such as the importance of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights.

For the last three years, I’ve been talking about senior care, the aging of America, long-term care, and starting early when it comes to conversations about what to do with Mom and Dad.

The thing is though, “the aging of America” is happening across our entire plant. We are living longer — with or without chronic disease. There is still so much work to be done in regards to improving senior care, but we have also accomplished quite a bit.

Please celebrate living, celebrate life, and when its time to talk about caring for our loved ones, please reach out for help. You are not alone.
