Let’s move from unprepared to prepared

If this is you after watching the news for the last 24-48 hours with a 20-yard stare and a ton of questions starting with, “What if…”

I want to snap you back to reality.

Let’s move from the 20-yard stare to creating a plan for your loved ones. Let’s move from shock and awe to preparedness.

Prepared Not Unprepared

If you currently have home care your company should have reached out to you and have talked to about Plan B.

If they haven’t let’s start one now.

Preparedness Checklist:

  1. Do you need to order additional medications?
    1. Do the medications have to be prompt? Who can do it if the aide is not there?
    2. Have the Pharmacy number on hand.
    3. Have a list of medications and the time schedule posted somewhere in the kitchen with clear writing.
    4. Have a list of physicians on hand.
  2. Is there enough food in the house?
    1. Who can prepare the meals if the aide is not present?
    2. Do meals have to be prompted or supervised?
  3. Are there enough cleaning supplies on hand?
  4. Are there enough personnel supplies?
    1. Depends, wipes, gloves, special lotions, pastes etc.
  5. Can you limit your seniors being out of the home and limit those coming into their homes?

Start with the above list.

Talk to your seniors as well as your spouse and/or siblings about what you need to accomplish and who can help collect the items listed above.

Remember to stay calm, think before you speak, and take one step at a time.

I’ll post more in a few days.

If you have questions or concerns please feel free to ask or call my office at (716) 633-7400.

I’ve started consulting with families as they try and come up with a care plan for their loved ones. Many clients have found it helpful to have a third party involved.

Again stay calm, make your list, and take one step at a time. Before you know it, you’ll be executing your plan.

Also, if you have seniors in a different state, contact a home care agency to help. B&C United Home Care serves Western New York. Please feel free to call us if you need help in the Buffalo area. We can help you set up a care plan to check on your loved one.

Stay Inspired,

Shonda
